The Arab Student Union is an organization that predominantly fosters three main principles: traditions, cultures, and unity. Together, we also aim to foster Arab students growth through leadership and community service efforts.
Additionally, the Arab Student Union also provides Arab students with an opportunity to maintain cultural identity, ideas, and share their unique culture with the community. Twenty-two countries share Arabic as their native language, and 22 cultures and traditions descend from one root. Arab students of both Muslim and Christian faith gather and emerge as one unit together.
One of the club’s biggest undertakings over the past few years has been raising funds for the Arab American Academic Excellence Scholarship Award. The award is a unique scholarship to the foundation because it is raised by students, for students. With the club’s constant efforts to help fellow students fund their education, there have been numerous scholarships that have been provided for Moraine Valley students since 2013. The Arab Student Union has even exceeded its annual fundraising goals with the help of may generous community members.
In an effort to continue the clubs growing impact on other students, together we felt that it was necessary to host a bake sale fundraiser. During the bake sale the club sold a variety of desserts ranging from Arabic delicacies, Mexican treats, and various other pastries. As a former recipient of the scholarship, it was very humbling to be able to pay it forward to other students by hosting the bake sale fundraiser.
