Moraine Valley has been recognized by two international organizations for its excellence in financial reporting.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded Moraine Valley with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the college’s comprehensive annual financial report. The Association of School Business Officials International also awarded Moraine Valley with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for excellence in the preparation and issuance of the fiscal year 2010 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
The introductory section incorporates the District’s main officials and an organization chart. The financial segment includes the report of independent accounts, basic financial statements, and additional information. The statistical section includes selected unaudited financial and demographic information. The financial reports section includes Uniform Financial Statements, Certificate of Chargeback information; grant financial statements and enrollment schedules by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). The Moraine Valley Community College Financial Report includes accurate and detailed information of every financial activity that consisted within the given year. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is presented in four sections: introductory, financial, statistical and special reports. After taking a look of the PDF version of the Comprehensive Financial Annual Report from Moraine Valley Community College’s 2011 fiscal year (and this is a student’s perspective), the content listed was produced in an orderly fashion. All the material given was up to date and precise. The introductory section contained a lot of basic information to guide readers who are unfamiliar with the college. The remaining three sections were remarkable thorough and in-depth.
The finance officer’s organization’s certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and “its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” according to the association’s press release.
“By preparing and presenting an annual report, Moraine Valley validated the credibility of its school system’s operations, measured the integrity and technical competence of the business staff, assisted in strengthening their presentations for bond issuance statements, and provided professional recognition,” noted the school business officials.
Moraine Valley’s mission, as stated in the report, is “to educate the whole person in a learning centered environment … value excellence in teaching, learning and service … we are committed to providing accessible, affordable and diverse learning opportunities . . . “
Considering the award that was just received, it is clear to see they’ve achieved just that.
